Keeping it simple for the new year

Big and splashy is fun, but small and simple can be just as effective (and easier to deal with) when it comes to life, work, and data

Really useful reminding me of the power of story telling, its usefulness to memory and how a simple structure always applies to everything, no-one wants to know how clever oneself is

Phrenology map. Loved that. Well, I don’t know much about Neurodiversity. There are definitely people who are physically different in the way they act. Not everybody processes in the same way, and we definitely have very different narratives for understanding. I met a boy who could control his vision, perception and his audio understanding at the same time on two different focuses. Until I saw him, show me that, I did not have thought that was feasible.

What does "estimate" mean?? is it like in SPSS for one increase in an independent variable, the dependent variable increases/decreases with the corresponding value of "estimate" for said independent variable?? I cannot find anywhere online. Please help

Data doesn’t exist. It is something we create. It is uniquely a psychological construct. The same is true about words. As you said words are soundwaves. At least while they exist, their sound waves. We use words to communicate our understanding to another person. I really enjoyed your comment on both the nature of data, and if a tree falls in the woods. A degree to nowhere. The paths to government credentialing and career Focus are interesting discussions. You mention that degrees are to be educated. While I suppose there is nothing wrong with that narrative, it seems like K-12, and then through secondary education is a lot of time to be.” educated.” Seems to me that higher education is more about careers than it is about education or learning or growing as a person. Seems like it’s more about getting yourself paid. Sensation versus perception. Does wave really have anything to do with sensation? There is a lot of validity to arguing that we psychologically create words and data. The same way that relationships typically have two actors meaning that there is a category of interactions that have two sides of the same coin. It’s like considering trolls and Karen. Were they provoked? Could you have just ignored the other party? You make a good point when you talk about perception. I suppose I question the wisdom in the differentiation with sensation. To me, that sounds like you are arguing a difference between emotions and feelings. I have yet to find objective definitions that differentiate between the two definitions people are typically using our art at best and extremely subjective. I love how you said they need to be counted. Counting is a subject deeply I love. An extension of set theory. I also see a lot of wisdom in what you said about storytelling. For the last two years I’ve been very interested in narratives precisely for what I hear you describing.

I was reviewing your content and what videos you have produced and which of your videos that I have watched, and your content is really good. While I was exploring emotions, I went on a tangent into data and category/attribute data distinctions seemed foundational to what I was learning and studying. My biggest takeaway on emotions was valence and arousal but with data, categories vs attributes was very central to understanding. Nominal, ordinal, and interval attributes as different centers of different categories of populations.

Thank you for this awesome explanation! One question: where do I see the Variance explained? (For my thesis, I have to validate a questionnaire and therefore check, how much variance of the data is explained by other questionnaires.) And should I take every item for that or just the subscales?
